Learning how to fly powered paraglider under instructor's guidance is essential for safe and
continuous enjoyment of the sport. To earn an Ultralight license
required to fly PPG in Canada student pilot must complete 30 take
offs and landing totaling 5 or more hours in your log book.
Here is an example of a typical
course outline:
Day one: We start with 4 hours preparatory ground
school on Saturday
morning that usually runs from 8 am until 12 noon. We take 1 hour
brake for lunch and drive to the training
field. We start again around 2 pm getting familiar with paraglider
and training harness. We learn how to forward and reverse inflate the
paraglider from 2 pm till 5:00 pm. Then you will get to ride the trike
without the paraglider. Once you get used to it we will attach the
glider and you will practice taxiing with paraglider attached to the
trike. If you can manage to taxi without any oscillations and show us
good throttle management will give you the option to go for your first
solo flight. I would
estimate that you have 30 % chance that you will fly solo using trike
on your
first training day, if weather is suitable. We usually wrap things up
after your first flight as there is lot to digest.
Day two: You have to decide if you are happy with
flying trike or want to proceed to foot launch that is more difficult
to learn but you are less restricted by wind velocity and the surface
of your take off area. On the other hand the trike requires no
physical effort as foot launch can be quite demanding especially
during the learning stage.
If you want to foot
launchWe will meet back at the training
field around 1 pm for more glider work perfecting forward and
reverse inflations. You will also learn how to run with paramotor
on your back using its power - not having paraglider attached yet. Once you inflations are consistent and you can keep
the glider up in the air while running down the field we will
strap engine to your back as a next step. Things will be more awkward
but you will adjust soon. Once you will be able to inflate the
glider and run with it having paramotor on your back we will start
it and you will go for your first solo foot launch take off.
If you want to trike
launch We will meet back at the training
field around 3 pm and simply proceed to more flights to
improve our consistency.
I would
estimate that on day 2 you have 60 % chance that you will fly solo
using trike and 30 % chance to manage your first foot take off.
Day three.
Same as day two - More ground handling if you did not fly yet. If
you did then pretty just more flying plus we will be filling in the rest of the ground school.
I would
estimate that we have 90 % chance that you will fly solo using trike
and 60 % chance to manage your first foot take off.
Day four.
Same as day three - pretty much
just more flying plus we will be filling in the rest of the ground school.
I would
estimate that we have 99 % chance that you will fly solo using trike
and 80 % chance to manage your first foot take off.
Five or more: Same as day four - pretty much
just more flying plus we will be filling in the rest of the ground school.
Completion of Powered Paragliding Ontario PPG
paramotoring course and earning an Ultralight pilot license takes approximately
30 - 40 hours. This may spread out over as many as 10 days.
There are some
weather
conditions that will prevent us from triking, paramotor training or powered
paraglider flying:
there will be no ground paraglider handling if surface wind is more then 25
km/h
trike
launch - there will be no PPG powered paraglider flying if surface wind is
more then 15 km/h or if I deem the conditions too thermal or
turbulent.
foot
launch - there will be no PPG powered paraglider flying if surface wind is
more then 20 km/h or if I deem the conditions too thermal or
turbulent
there will be no training at all in rain or if our field is
water logged and/or very muddy
there will be no PPG training if there is snow on the ground
we have indoor facility to teach paramotor ground school and to show and
test paramotoring equipment that we sell.
I am instructor certified by Transport Canada
with 4 years of experience
teaching paragliding, 8 years of experience teaching powered
paragliding. I have been paragliding since 1988 and power
paragliding since 2000. I also have 23
years of experience teaching rock climbing.
our paramotor PPG school is approved by Ministry of Transportation Canada
we only teach students on approved PPG equipment. please call
and discuss the equipment you plan to purchase gear before the
course.
we follow written curriculum to ensure quality and consistency of
powered paraglider PPG paramotor training
our PPG paramotor classes are small to ensure personal attention to all
students. I teach all the powered paragliding courses my self with
help of Mark another experienced PPG instructor.
Very nice flight - this is what it is like....see here

COST:
I require an $ 500.00 deposit
(this is when you book
on line) to register in the
powered paraglider course and additional $ 500.00 is due at the first day of the
course - I will keep this money as credit and will deduct
appropriate amount daily as we train according to the course
cost structure below. The $ 1000 only covers the first 3 days of
your course. Once your $ 1000 is gone you will pay as
you go.
Gift
certificates for powered paraglider course are available - this would be a cool gift for someone
adventures.
IMPORTANT: Note
that paying $ 1000 doesn't mean that you will complete your PPG paramotor powered paraglider
training and earn an Ultralight aero plane license (restricted to
powered parachutes). I
had a few students with paragliding background and students who purchased full set of equipment and
practiced on their own who were fully prepared and ready to fly
therefore the cost of the
full course was only around $ 1200. An average PPG student who is using school equipment will
spend about $ 1700. I also have some want to be PPG pilots in
process who spent close to $ 2200 and are still not
proficient. If you want to keep cost down buy and train with
your own paramotoring PPG equipment - rental fees will not apply. See course cost
structure below.
